Content review policy

How material is checked before it goes up, and what a reviewer credit on a page does and does not mean.

Before publication

  1. Subject check. Statements about the Arabic script, articulation points and recitation rules are checked against the standard teaching literature on the subject.
  2. Scope check. The draft is checked for anything that strays into religious rulings or contested scholarly positions. Such material is removed or rewritten to describe the disagreement rather than resolve it.
  3. Claims check. Every factual claim, figure and product statement is checked. Anything that cannot be substantiated is removed rather than softened.
  4. Clarity check. Technical terms are introduced where they first appear, and the page is read as a beginner would read it.

Reviewer credits

Where a page has been reviewed by someone with relevant qualifications, the page displays that person's name, their credentials and the date of review. This is intended to tell you something specific and verifiable.

Consequently: pages without a reviewer credit have not been externally reviewed. We do not display generic phrases such as “reviewed by scholars” without naming the person, and we do not credit anyone who has not reviewed the material in question.

After publication

  • Reader corrections are investigated and, where correct, applied promptly.
  • Pages are re-read periodically for accuracy and for links that no longer resolve.
  • Substantive changes update the page's modification date.
